David Balfour, an honest subject of King George, faces a number of sticky problems before entering his inheritance as Laird of Shaws. Amidst the legal corruption and political intrigue of 18th century Edinburgh David falls in love with the Tale's Highland heroine, Catriona MacGregor Drummond, the daughter of a Jacobite rebel and convicted criminal James More. Separated by events, David and Catriona are brought together by their mutual friend, the memorable Barbara Grant, on board a ship bound for Holland. Catriona is the sequel to Stevenson's Kidnapped.
